Hydrotherapy + Massage at Careys Manor

Hey guys!

So this is my second part to my review of Careys Manor and Senspa and you can find my full review of the hotel side of things here.

So where on earth do I start! Firstly I should say that I have never before visited a destination spa. One of my ideas for moving into travel from my work in beauty, was to combine the two in this way and focus on environments that worked on health, wellness and beauty from the same direction I’ve gone in with Agitprop. When I reached out to Careys Manor I was truly touched by how compatible the ideas were because not only were they a traditional Thai spa experience, but the focus of the entire stay is wellness, relaxation and rest bite which is integral for maintaining great mental health. That’s as important as the beautifying treatments.

There’s a variety of facilities, ranging from new-age things like the Aurasphere which was an extremely new type of treatment that combines immersive light therapy with sound, vibration, and heat. It’s very unusual but I put a mention in my blog on light therapy so check it out.

Then we have conventional spa experiences like saunas, now let me explain the variety that they have to offer here because I was none the wiser of the many options there actually is in terms of saunas.

The crystal sauna to the right was actually a high humidity sauna so that basically meant that it was heady and I find high humidity extremely hard to breathe in. There was an aromatic sense to this room as well and I believe it was described as herbal, but it was quite an experience. Then next door was a second sauna with low humidity which was a wooden conventional sauna, I really enjoyed this one and we tried to stay in there for as long as we could to detoxify. They were really beautiful and you basically go in your swimwear, with the robes you get and you take full advantage.

There wasn’t a lot of people there and all of these experience rooms were the advanced stay, so basically you pay for your hotel and you get access to a basic sauna, a basic pool, and basic jacuzzi. All this fancy stuff is an upgrade and you pay £22-40 upgrade, depending on the time of day, in addition to your hotel cost to use these additional features. Then there is of course custom treatments like facials, massages that are administered by individuals and they are an additional price as well which I’ll mention in a second.

Other rooms in the advanced part of the Senspa were things like the hydrotherapy pool which I have never in my life heard of before but think is absolutely fabulous now, So they have these underwater style frames that you either sit on, in or under and they channel jets of water into your specific areas of tension, whether your neck with these swan-like devices, your legs, which I really enjoyed as I have gone through about a year of chiropractic work on my hips. The water is to your body temperature and we went around trying all the features out and it was extremely effective.

Other rooms in this part were the Temparium, a room that is like a body temperature room with beds made of a mosaic that’s very warm, it was really lovely and relaxing and not too intense. They have Yoga studios, they have meditation, they have a quiet room, they have all these additional features.

I was offered a traditional Thai massage that went on about 90 minutes, I marked on a pretreatment guide the areas that I’d like to focus on and the lady went ahead and did a great job of helping with my neck pain and my back pain. I also had a shower after which was in the treatment room so it was fantastic.

The overall experience I would say was just fantastic and for my first time at a fully decked out spa, I don’t think it could have been any better. There was so much to offer and the upgraded treatments you could do just by using the rooms and the hydrotherapy would be a temptation alone. I would definitely recommend this to young couples who want a retreat. I also noticed that there was a lot of mention in the hand guides in the spa as to people who were poorly or in recovery, or pregnant so they can cater to all types of situations.

A typical spa day can range from £99-145 with additional couple experiences at a higher price. 1 night would be £235 and two nights would be £450 per person. Treatments individually priced.

So what can I say other than a beautiful experience? Anyone that would like to be taken on a blissful retreat in the forest, this is ideal. I would give this a 4.75 out of 5 and I would definitely revisit.

Let me know in the comments below your thoughts and what treatments you would have checked out.
