Plant Pioneers Fish
Hey guys!
Continuing on my fish adventures I am now looking at the Plant Pioneers Fishless fillets, which I’ve never tried before. They’re totally unique and I wanted to give you guys a proper review as opposed to a recipe, to add to the mix!
So I’m allergic to fish, so I have to get a lot of help on this quest to compare what things taste like compared to their fishy alternatives, so I got my mum involved to be a taste tester with me. These are made of jackfruit and king oyster mushrooms, so they have a texture that I guess we are all familiar on this vegan quest, but they’re slithered into such a way that they sort of are layered? They have a texture that’s unlike other protein alternatives I’ve tried and I can’t really describe them, a mix between a vegan sausage roll and a mushroom? They definitely don’t have much meaty resistance, and are much more melt in the mouth than other alternatives.
I thought the flavour was actually quite nice, I liked them as they had something seaweedy that gave it a bit more of a sea like flavour, and I think that they were battered really well so that was great. I would definitely recommend if battered fish is your guilty pleasure as it’s an awesome alternative, but for me, it’s not something I would have as a treat. It’s not 100% my cup of tea, it’s yum but I don’t really get it without much reference to actual fish.
So let me know what you think!
