KOLA BOOF
I have been great friends with Kola for some time, and during our years online, I have seen her educate and reprimand a battalion of social media advocates for their missteps. Her knowledge as a historian on African history as well as her love for film, she was a writer for many of the US largest soaps, is just the tip of the iceberg. During her career as a writer, Kola documented her imprisonment by terrorist Osama Bin Ladin in her book, Diary of a Lost Girl, which I read and loved many years ago. Though she was at first dismissed by the media, the book rang as a testimony and the information she provided was proved to be truth, so it has been a tough yet fascinating tale. We’ve always connected because at our core, we are softies and we care about all people, and I completely look up to Kola on her brilliant, poetic descriptors of black culture. She has interviewed many times and people are often amazed by her knowledge of black history, her comic book Volcano Woman gave western audiences an insight into African mythos and imagery. She has such varied work and it was a privilege to talk through her journey.
