Cool Sculpting at the Cavendish Clinic
Hey everyone!
I was invited to work with the fabulous Cavendish Clinic in London, on some content and I immediately asked to test out the Cool Sculpting procedure with the official fat freezing technology. Recently there’s been a lot of headlines relating to Linda Evangelista’s treatment with Coolsculpting, which resulted in the fat cells expanding which immediately made me look into the pro’s and cons of this incredible treatment.
So what is Cool Sculpting? It’s basically the concept of sucking your stubborn fat pockets into a hoover like machine, and with protected sheets, then frozen. The cells freeze, break apart and then are reabsorbed and excreted. It is a really fascinating process because the fat breaks down at a cooler temperature than water, so the official Coolsculpting procedure takes it to -11 degrees celsius. Other machines on the market do not go this low, and that is the major difference. The treatment takes about 30-45 minutes and is relatively painless because the cold numbs you.
What can happen to some people, is PAH, Paradoxal Adipose Hyperplasia. Unusual fat growth. This happens in 0.0051% of treatments, so the chance of this happening is so unusual that there have been rare reports of it compared to the millions of treatments that have successfully removed 40-60% of the stubborn fat pockets. What seems to have happened with Linda Evangelista is that her practitioner did not forewarn her, most clinics have a practise where they explain simply what the process is and the very rare chance of things going wrong, in the same way that people getting botox are warned about blindness. It’s a horrific and unusual outcome and my heart goes out to my idol Linda.
My experience with Coolsculpting was entirely fabulous and the Cavendish Clinic provided clear and concise guidance to me. I experienced a zoom consultation which looked at the areas I wanted treated. For me I wanted just a little bit on my back and sides treated where I had put on a little weight in the lockdown and couldn’t shift with my PT. I shared with the nurse my concerns and she agreed it would be a great procedure that would take about 40 minutes. I attended the London clinic and had a pre consult with the practitioner, who was extremely thorough with the information given to me. The clinic is fab and just outside of Kensington High Street so easy to get to from Victoria.
I was photographed in the areas and changed into appropriate clothing for the treatment, and sat comfortably in the bed. The two vacuum style applicators were applied to the areas and the start of the treatment was extremely strange feeling, it was a pressure but not a pain and I was positioned with a series of cushions to help me stay comfortable. They also offered a tv with Netflix on which was great, for people who want to chill out during the treatment.
The cooling slowly built up over the first five minutes and it just felt numb, there was no comparable experience but it just was cold, so they added a blanket and let me enjoying the treatment. I was also given a fabulous buzzer in case I needed assistance from the practitioner and sat and let the magic work.
For part 2 I will be sharing the before after in my video, I can’t wait to show the results!
